Anil Salem is a musician that experiments with many styles of music, especially Celtic and Indian music. For the past couple of years, Salem has been innovating and creating music that allows listeners to have a unique cultural experience.  In 2015, Salem released a busking instrumental CD called Roots.  This collection of instrumentals conveys stories that he simply could not put into words. It represents his beginnings as an artist. He sold Roots as he busked in the heart of Princeton and the subways of New York City for 2 years. Within this time, Salem performed at the critically acclaimed Apollo Theater in 2017 and acted as himself in a theater show at New York City called Buskers, The Musical.  Recently, Salem just finished recording his debut studio album Anil Salem which is set to be released in the spring of 2020.

Along with composing music, Salem is an avid learner and loves to play multiple instruments. He plays the classical guitar, acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, harp guitar, lap steel guitar, bass guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, flute, French horn, piano, and drums.  Salem has invented a new style of playing called dulcitarring, where he plays the harp guitar and hammered dulcimer at the same time. It is one thing to hear his album music but another to see him perform live. His performances are literally an “out of body experience”.  The music is so visual that it makes anyone want more.

Salem always believes that he will always be a student. He researches new styles of music, listens to many different genres, and loves to get out of his comfort zone.  He enjoys the challenges of composing as it makes him truly think “outside the box”.
